Erasmus + “SONAIRGRAPH – SONification for Accessible and Inclusive Representation of GRAPHs in Education”

Descrizione del progetto

Function graphs are broadly used in mathematics teaching-learning from the secondary school level and essential in a wide range of disciplines at the university level. Despite its relevance in many fields, this mathematical concept still represents an obstacle to the inclusion of visually impaired students due to its visual components and the lack of affordable and accessible assistive technologies. To address this issue, the scientific community is currently taking into consideration the potentials offered by sonification processes, namely the transposition of visual components into sounds, producing a new way of accessing data.

Azione progettuale

SONAIRGRAPH aims to strengthen the cooperation between higher education institutions and third sector organisations to analyse, test and apply the potential of sonification processes in the representation of function graphs, departing from the experimental digital application Audiofunctions. The project will: analyse the educational potentials and challenges of using sonification techniques and develop a methodological protocol to test Audiofunctions; test the digital application with higher education students from different national and educational backgrounds and characteristics to improve its current version; promote and disseminate an improved and accessible version of Audiofunctions at the European level.

Target group

Students with visual impairments; higher education students from different national and educational backgrounds and characteristics.
